We Expect Better
Today, Liberal MP for Prahran, Clem Newton Brown, voted with the government to restore religious exemptions to anti-discrimination law.
It will undoubtedly be reintroduced, probably next week.
I EXPECT BETTER
I expect better form the so-called 'progressive Liberals. I expect them to vote AGAINST this legislation next time, or at the very least, abstain.
I EXPECT MORE
"Well, what do you expect us to do?" wailed one of the progressives. "What's your wishlist?"
This is what I wrote. Please feel free to add your wishes and I will pass them on.
MY WISHLIST
Set up a whole of govt GLBTI MAC encompassing Health, Social Services,
Attorney-General, Education, Housing which meets at least once a month
Fully fund Roz Wards Safe Schools initiative and make it compulsory in
all Victorian schools, public and private
Remove religious exemptions from anti-discrimination law
Leave the Human Rights charter alone
Replace religious ‘instruction’ by evangelicals with EDUCATION in
comparative religion taught by properly qualified academics
Replace chaplains with properly qualified secular counsellors
Set up specialist support programs for senior GLBTIQ and to train aged-care providers and workers
Sort out adoption / parenting / surrogacy law - talk to the Gay Dads
Sort any Trans/Intersex issues - talk to TGV/OII
