Recycled Water: We already drink it

Before I get onto recycled water, I just want to say a big thank you to those who took part in the debate about that movie they are making about the Sydney Gang rapists. Rape is an extremely emotive issue and I can see where each of you are coming from so once again...thank you.

Anyway onto recycled water as you all know, in the last couple of weeks, a huge debate has erupted over whether Australians would drink recycled water. The NSW premier has already said that NSW residents would be drinking water from a desalination plant while the Queensland premier announced that the South East of Queensland would be drinking recycled water, the water situation in that state being so critical, Mr Beattie's move supported by the Prime Minister, John Howard but the NSW Premier is not convinced that recycled water is the answer to NSW water problems saying the people of NSW won't be drinking "cattle wee" (Mind you there is an election coming up NSW and he was saying that to win votes) and that NSW already has the answers to the water problem...desalination plants and a water recycling facility at Rouse Hill in Sydney which is to be expanded while the Prime Minister announced a new plan for water which will affect the Murray Darling significantly and might work if a certain state government stopped playing petty politics

Someone in Mr Iemma's government needs to remind Mr Iemma that most people in NSW are already drinking recycled water or "cattle wee" as he called it anyway not enough water is not being recycled enough and NSW is also not doing enough to save stormwater and redirect it back out to a slowly dropping Warragamba Dam and drought affected areas as I think the NSW Opposition leader, Peter Debnam (who is also pretty much useless) suggested but I should point out that NSW is in election mode at the moment so it's really not a surprise that Mr Debnam would say that sort of thing.

I honestly have to say I have no problem with drinking recycled water but there are a lot of people who do have a problem with it eg: fear of disease etc but we have been drinking recycled water for years and there has been no problem with it (Except in Sydney a couple of years ago but that was something put in the water from memory...I might be wrong). So many well developed countries drink recycled water and we don't hear too many problems over there so the question I am asking is: Is a nation wide water recycling program part of the answer to Australia's water problems? Why or why not? Also do you think Mr Howard's plan for water in Australia will work?
