Why a fundraiser?

Just over a year since its inception the petit showroom in the back of Kaye Sera's BiZARRE is gearing up for extensive retro fit.

The renovations are designed to bring the venue inline with current fire and safety standards. They are involved and costly and to that end, Kaye Sera is planning a BiZARRE Fundraiser in the Foyer of Chapel Off Chapel, Tuesday March 29, 7.30pm.

The concert event boasts a stellar entertainment line up with many of our brightest performers donating their time in support of the intimate showroom at Kaye Sera's BiZARRE.

"This is a new development in the life of the BiZARRE. It's a big step up for us. But with the help of our many supporters who've enjoyed a nights cabaret entertainment at the BiZARRE, we will be able to make these necessary changes and meet local council expectation for a lively community arts hub," says Kaye Sera.

Kaye Sera's BiZARRE was an official community hub at this year's Midsumma Festival. Kaye Sera, one of the few Melbourne drag queens to sing live, is to be honoured with a special Contribution to Cabaret award at this years Green Room Awards - to be held in the Famous Spiegeltent, March 21.

About Kaye Sera's BiZARRE

With seating for just 40 patrons, the cabaret lounge at Kaye Sera's BiZARRE is very possibly Melbourne's most intimate music salon. The venue, located in the back of a quirky antique shop aims to be a lively and accessible showcase for new cabaret shows and up and coming talent. Performers to have taken the intimate BiZARRE challenge to date include: Fiona Scott Norman (Disco - the vinyl solution), Luke Gallagher (The Boy Next Door), Dolly Diamond, Dean Arcuri (To Sir With Glove), Supergirly (Lulu McClatchy), Wolfgang Bass (Jessie Lewis), Cassidy Haley (USA singer/songwriter), Pam Hall (local singer/songwriter), Jade Leonard (singer/songwriter), Jacob Diefenbach, Matthew Grant (Creator of The Butterfly Club & The Lobster Lounge), Tim McKew (The Last Noel) and comedy drag performer Glenda Waverly (Glenda Waverley's Showroom).

Later this year, Kaye Sera's BiZARRE will host a new season of Noel Tovey's celebrated play, Little Black Bastard.

The intimate and quirky nature of Kaye Sera's BiZARRE has also made it a highly sought after space for photography and independent film shoots. The venue has hosted makeup workshops, script readings and rehearsals and is a regular hub for the Bentlines Life Drawing group and the Words on Wednesday queer chat/reading fest (first Wednesday of the month).
