Kangaroos to be distroyed
The culling of hundreds of Kangaroos at a Canberra site has been given a green light by the Defence Department.
In March, the Defence Department decided to stop the culling plans and look for an alternative. This included moving the kangaroos interstate, which would avoid mass protests from around the world.
Defence spokesmen Brigadier Andrew Nikolic said that alternative options had been properly examined and researched in a bid to manage the problem at the Belconnen Naval Transmitting Site (BNTS).
The Federal Government has now withdrawn its support for a translocation research project as it does not consider it cost-effective," Brig. Nikolic said.
"Defence therefore has no option but to undertake a cull at BNTS."

In December 2007, there were approximately 590 kangaroos at the site. Both the Defence and ACT Government believe this number is too high and can not be sustained.
"Defence is committed to sustainable environmental management, protecting endangered ecological communities and threatened species and humanely managing over-abundant species," he said.
The planned culling has received international condemnation from animal activist. Japan have also let their opinion known about the cullings.
