Current Affairs - The opinions of a grumpy old pouf

Doug Pollard is a veteran gay journalist, columnist, commentator, and broadcaster specialising in GLBTI issues, based in Melbourne Australia. Gay Dad Needs Your Help

James Christoffelsz
James Christoffelsz is a 42 year old father to three young children and donor dad of two others.

James has worked in the community, helping families at separation resolve disputes, helping staff in organisations in HR roles, and in the gay community, helping gay men realise their dream of fatherhood, through the Gay Dads Alliance.

Cancer diagnosis & treatment
James was recently diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus and his treatment has stopped him working for the time being, placing a strain on his family in caring for the kids and on the family finances.

It has been a difficult eight weeks for James and his family including five weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.

His courage and wisdom in dealing with his diagnosis and has been inspiring.

$10,000 needed urgently
So folks please join us in supporting him, raising as much as possible towards the $10,000 cost of a new drug therapy not yet on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and administered via The Peter McCallum Hospital, where James is being treated.

Fundraising activities include:

1. A Picnic in the Park , with activities for kids from 11:00am on Sunday 27th November, 2011 - (a great chance to connect with James, Steve and family) see below for details RSVP required

2. A Band Night at East Brunswick Club - 3 bands (live music which includes James's brothers performing) on the 23rd November, 2011.

3. A possible Trash and Treasure Market - where people bring items they want to sell (kind of a community garage sale) and mini fete with nominated funds going to the fund raising account.

4. Host a morning tea at your work ?

5. Simply donate to the account

We hope you may be able to support these great events - and encourage friends and family to join you and make them a success. If you can't attend, please consider donating to the cause to help James and his family.

Your donation will make a difference to James and his long term survival and we say thanks in advance for any help.
