Freshly Doug November 11
Baillieu bails out, an Independent stands, the Greens tell us why they're they gayest, a headmistress explains, and more, all on Freshly Doug this week.
BAILLIEU NO-SHOW
Well I had planned to be chatting with Victorian Liberal leader Ted Baillieu this morning, but early yesterday he remembered he had a previous engagement at a Remembrance Day ceremony. He hopes to be with us another day soon.
Not surprising, we all know that Diggers comes before Poufters in the Liberal dictionary.
AN INDEPENDENT MAN
Curiously, no other senior Liberal responded to my invite to step into the breach, so instead I have independent candidate Serge Thomann joining us to tell us why he’s against so much more than just the St Kilda Triangle development.
GREEN & GAY
And Greens MP and GLBTI spokesperson Sue Pennicuik tells us why Green is better for gays than Labor.
WHERE'S IVANHOE'S CHIVALRY?
Ivanhoe Girls Grammar has been copping a fair bit of stick over its refusal to let a girl take her girlfriend to a prom. The schools headmistress, Dr Heather Schnagel, insists the school is not homophobic, and she joins us to explain why.
QUEENSLAND LEGAL AID
I’ve often wondered why the law, which is supposed to treat everyone equally, is so expensive that it’s effectively out of reach for a lot of GLBTI people – usually the ons that need it most.
Queensland, however, is about to get an LGBTI Legal Aid Service. Julie Howes tells us all about it.
THE SEAL OF APPROVAL
My special guest today is one of those people who have been active in the community since forever, yet he doesn’t have a high profile. Perhaps that’s because for many years now a lot of his time is taken with raising kids, as a foster father. Digging Deeper with Ian Seal at 10.
MARRIAGE LINES 1) THE STATES
Suddenly equal marriage is flavor of the month. Politicians from right and left are suddenly coming out in favour, and even state parliaments are weighing in on the issue with their own same-sex marriage bills. Rodney Croome joins us with news of what’s happening in Tasmanian Parliament.
MARRIAGE LINES 2) THE FEDS
Meanwhile in Canberra the buzzword is conscience vote – the pressure is on to let MPs vote on an equal marriage bill according to their personal beliefs, instead of just following the party line.
Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? Opinion is divided, I’ll be picking through the arguments with Rod Swift.
