SHY SOCIALISTS
Liberals, Greens and Nationals seem to have no problem appearing on my show, but senior Labor politicians (with the notable exception of Bronwyn Pike) are shy. For example, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve offered that nice not-Mrs Gillard the opportunity to speak directly to the people she would force to stay as unmarried as she is, but so far I haven‘t even had an acknowledgement.
I suppose they’d say she is too busy running the country to take time out to chat with an old pouf. But my special guest this week will shortly – we won’t know how shortly until the Prime Minister decides the date of the election – be retiring from politics, so he’s prepared to risk it .
LINDSAY TANNER
Until then he’s federal member for Melbourne, Finance Minister, one of the infamous Gang of Four at the centre of the Rudd government, Lindsay Tanner joins me for an hour of conversation and music at 10.
A WET LIB IN PORT
Meanwhile over in Melbourne Ports, currently held by Michael Danby an openly gay candidate is standing. Kevin Ekendahl used to work in radio and newspapers but now works for the youth assistance charity TRY, which helps youth and children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and their parents. Sounds like a good lefty resume but in fact he’s standing for the Liberals.
PENINSULA BUT NOT MARGINAL
Down Mornington way Peninsula Health are setting up a GLBTI Reference Group to help and advise them on the special health needs of our community and they’re looking for members. The man at the helm and in the studio today is Simon Ruth.
NO WAY OUT FOR DISCRIMINATORS
You may remember some time back that the rural same-sex attracted youth outreach and suicide prevention program Way Out in Kyneton had a bit of a run-in with the Christian Brethren – a case which finally came before VCAT yesterday. The CEO of the Youth Advisory Council of Victoria, Georgie Ferrari, will join us to talk about the case.
LAW & OTHER SHOWS
Our Legal Eagle Kristina Antoniades, from Nicholes Family Law will be here to give us the lowdown on issues around partnerships and migration, and Will Conyers joins me with the latest from the world of theatre.
MACKAY & BEYOND
But first up, as always, will be Daniel Witthaus’s tour challenging homophobia in rural and regional Australia.
