Freshly Doug July 1 - 1st Birthday!
Happy Birthday to Me!
Welcome to the first birthday of Freshly Doug. Hard to believe it is twelve months since I closed down the Rainbow Report and launched Freshly Doug on the unsuspecting morning listener.
We launched Freshly Doug a week ahead of the rest of the seasons programs so that I could launch it on my birthday, so I’m celebrating that his morning as well, although my actual birthday isn’t till tomorrow. But, if the British Queen can have two birthdays, why shouldn’t I?
No Cake Today
But that doesn’t mean there’s cake today. Julia Gillard abruptly terminated her honeymoon with the gay community when told Kyle and Jackie O, "We believe the marriage act is appropriate in its current form, that is recognising that marriage is between a man and a woman,” adding that there would be no change under her leadership.
The Advocates
Rodney Croome and Corey Irlam will be joining me today and that’ll be one of the issues they’ll both have something to say about: Gillard’s choice not to soften the government line on equal marriage, as she did with the mining tax and sustainable population policy.
VCOSS in election mode
The Victorian Council on Social Services is also in campaign mode, with the state election in their sights. Carolyn Atkins joins me to talk about their election platform.
Digging Deeper
Now I had planned to interview Alastair Nicholson on Digging Deeper this week, but unfortunately we had to change plans and instead we’ll be replaying our earlier chat with Colin Krycer.
The Regulars
As usual, Andrew Potts will have all the news from Sydney and Will Conyers will have the news from theatreland.
And we will kick off with the latest installment of Daniel Witthaus’s reports on homophobia around Australia, this time from Townsville.
