FRESHLY DOUG AUGUST 5
A Shadow cabinet member and a drag diva head a great lineup for this week.
SHADOW ATTORNEY GENERAL
Big show today with an interview with the Shadow Attorney General, Liberal Senator George Brandis, we’ll ask him about a raft of issues important to our community, later in the show.
THE BIG BLACK LABOR HOLE
You may be wondering why I have had a Greens Senator and party spokesperson on the show this week, and a senior Liberal Senator and shadow Cabinet Minister this week, but no sign of a senior Labor spokesperson.
Simple: they won’t provide one. I asked both parties for someone to talk about a whole range of issues affecting our community – excluding marriage, because we know they won’t go here – and the Liberals offered a shadow cabinet member, while the Labor Party offered a Parliamentary Secretary whose portfolio covers HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, and blood borne viruses. I know a slap in the face when I get one, so I told Labor no.
I have, however, invited Senator Brandis counterpart, AG Robert McClelland, to join me next week. Don’t hold your breath.
SEX PARTY, HEALTH & THE LIBERALS
Meanwhile we’ll talk to Tasmanian Rodney Croome about the Liberals GLBTI platform (such as it is), Paul Martin, head of the LGBT Health Alliance, which is being suggested as the possible future national government funded LGBT peak body, and Christian Vega, sex worker and Australian Sex Party Candidate.
KAYE SERA, SERA
And on Digging Deeper this week, another coup, as the legendary Kaye Sera talks to us about her life and work, between 10 and 11.
IMPEDIMENT TO MARRIAGE
Legal Eagle Kristina Antoniades explains what a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage is, and why you might need one – although the government won’t give it to you, and Andrew Potts joins us from Sydney to give us his take on the election so far.
CHALLENGING HOMOPHOBIA
We’ll start at usual with the latest report from Daniel Witthaus on his tour challenging homophobia in rural and regional Australia.
