Freshly Doug Thursday October 15
Freshly Doug has some unfinished business from last week. Because last week was Mental Health Week, we spoke at some length about gay and lesbian mental health issues and the lack of services that are available.
Today we pick up on that Lisa Neville, the Victorian Government minister responsible for mental health, and live on line we’ll have Leonie Young, the CEO of beyondblue. Leonie says beyondblue IS now moving to address GLBTI issues. If you have a question or comment for Leonie, email me ahead of time freshlydoug@joy.org.au or SMS 0427 JOY 949,or Twitter @freshlydoug druing the show, and we’ll put the questions to her.
And you may remember I wanted to speak with Attorney General Rob Hulls about the proposed religious exemptions to the revised Equal Opportunity legislation, but he was too busy, However, Nick Tollhurst from Saturday Magazine managed to get hold of him, and it’s worth hearing what he had to say. So we’ll be bringing you that item a bit later in the show.
As always between 10 and 11 I spend an hour with someone special and today’s guest is someone regular Joy listeners will know well, David McCarthy, from the Detours show. What you may not know is that David – known as Macca to his mates – has a colourful past in political activism and nightclub security. And that’s just for starters!
Last week we said a reluctant goodbye to Harley Dennett from the Sydney Star Observer, but his shoes at the paper have been filled by a former columnist on the paper, Andrew Potts, whom we’ll meet for the first time in the final hour of the show.
And just to make things nice and neat, I’ve taken over Andrews spot on the Sydney Star Observer opinion page, so I’m now officially bi-capital. [applause].
Plus our usual look at the world of theatre with Will Conyers and more news on how to be a greener tenant from Cate the Green Renter.
As always, feel free to join in, 0427 JOY 949. SMS 0427 JOY 949 (repeat). You can also Twitter @freshlydoug.
