Equal Marriage
Equal Marriage

Quite a cast list this week as we look at marriage: ACT Attorney General Simon Corbell, Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, Green candidate for Higgins Dr Clive Hamilton, Rainbow Labor man Steve Staikos, James Vigus from the Equal Love campaign and more.

Last week we were all gay and grey, but this week we’re in the pink as we build up to the national Equal Love Rallies at the weekend. Unfortunately I won’t be able to front the one here at the State Library on Saturday, thanks to a couple of persnickety kidney stones, but one of the organisers James Vigus joins me in the studio today to rev you all up.

The question of the day is: will you be marching for marriage this weekend? If not, why not? SMS 0427 JOY 949, that’s 0427 569 949, or twitter @freshlydoug during the show.

Peter Stokes of the pseudo-Christian micro-group The Saltshakers will be at the Melbourne rally photographing events to 'prove' hardly anybody is there: click on 'Comments' below to see details, or for more info, call Peter Stokes, Executive Officer, Salt Shakers: 03 9800 2855 / 0413 084 145

And boy do we need to get revved up! After dithering for a bit to make us all think they weren’t kow-towing to the Australian Christian Lobby, the Federal Government have decided they will veto the latest version of Civil Unions in the ACT unless there are changes – apparently it’s all too marriage-like for them again. Simon Corbell, ACT Attorney General will be with us on the show.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland was invited but unfortunately, although he seems to be happy to talk to the ABC he 'won't be issuing a running commentary on negotiations' and has declined to speak to me. Maybe he didn't like my little note over on the Rainbow Reporter blog!!

Likewise Anthony Albanese, who for some reason seems to be involved in the negotiations, hasn't returned my calls.

But, in a couple of major breakthroughs this week, The Age published an editorial supporting same-sex marriage, and just before that, the Victorian Labor Party Conference decided to poke Kevin in the eye with a sharp stick by endorsing equal marriage. [Steve Staikos] from Rainbow Labor explains why.

Plus the Senate report into Sarah Hanson-Young’s Marriage Equality Amendment Bill is out in the morning – hopefully we’ll speak to the Senator direct in the course of the program as soon as it’s released.

The Greens candidate for Higgins - Peter Costello's old seat - Dr Clive Hamilton, is in favor of same-sex marriage - but it's said he supports that dastardly Internet Filter - we'll find out as he joins me in the studio.

As always between 10 and 11 I spend an hour with someone special. Today’s guest is particularly well-qualified to look back over his own past – he’s the keeper of the gay and lesbian archives, Graham Willett.

Andrew Potts from the Sydney Star Observer on Kevin Rudd’s performance at the Australian Christian Lobby and the aforementioned Victorian ALP Conference.

The "GreenSoft™ tissue paper" inventor is in for a phone interview at 11:30. His name is Damian Scraft.

Plus our regular look at the world of theatre with Will Conyers.

SMS or twitter any time during the show, or email onair@joy.org.au.

This Saturday (Nov. 28) the pro homosexual / same-sex marriage lobby are gearing up a notch with the launch of a National Year of Action.

If you have a digital camera and can help this Saturday please read on...

They have been holding National Days of Action (NDA) on the anniversary of the passing of the Marriage Amendment Act but this year it was held two weeks later to coincide with the APL National Conference.
They are claiming this year’s NDA draw an estimated 10,000 people around Australia on Saturday, August 1.
That is simply ridiculous, but their estimates always are, which is why I need some help on Saturday.

They are launching the National YEAR of Action to coincide with the release (possibly tomorrow) of the Senate Review of Marriage. They are planning rallies in every major City and I want photos of every rally so we can prove their figures are an exaggeration.
Just recently they had a rally in Canberra and claimed over 100 people - the only photo of the event showed less than 30 people. Either more than 70 people were shy or they were not there - I suggest the latter.

I need at least one person in each Capitol City (except Darwin & Melbourne) with a good digital camera who can inconspicuously take wide angle shots or better still shots from a high point showing the crowd at each rally after it has started.
I would like to hear from you in the next 24 hours if you can help. I need to coordinate this and give some tips on procedure and sending in the photos as soon as possible after the event.
We will put the photos up on our web site and use them to challenge the media if there is a distortion.
I look forward to hearing from people in Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
If you are in Lismore can you help tomorrow?
