Desalination vs Recycled water

The NSW state election campaign is well and truly under way, already most areas of NSW should be suffering from a barrage of advertising from the Labor and their associated parties (Such as the NSW Nurses Association etc). The NSW ALP had the launch of their campaign over the weekend in Sydney while the Nationals launched their campaign in the NSW country town of Tamworth (which was where the Opposition leader, Peter Debnam was...the Liberals launch their campaign this week). Both the NSW Premier, Morris Iemma and Peter Debnam agree on one thing: Water is the most important issue facing NSW but they disagree on how NSW should go about solving the water issue. Morris Iemma is all for desalinated water for drinking and recycling for every other water use such as watering the garden or going to the toilet, while Peter Debnam has said that he will use stormwater harvesting and recycled water for all of NSW's water needs.
Now I have to say I absolutely hate the idea of desalination, I just think that desalination plants are not the most environmentally friendly, they emit a lot of greenhouse gas which I thought Mr Iemma was serious about until he suggested that a massive desalination plant be built so surely he ain't to serious on climate change, he is only interested in stopping climate change because it is politically expedient.
Queensland have said that they are going to use recycled water so why not NSW? It seems we have Pork (Iemma) and Lamb Chop (Debnam) vying to be premier of this state because as usual nothing will get done.
Which would you prefer desalinated water or recycled water?

Desalinising sea water is almost akin to recycling water when you think about it, but personally I would feel better drinking desalinised water than recycled.

I'd say that Iemma's plan to use desalinised water for drinking and recycled for other uses seems more appealing.

i think recycled water is the way to go because it is more environmentally friendly, and recycled water is actually cleaner that the water which comes out of Sydney's dams. Recycling water also doesn't have the massive environmental effects that desalinisation does. I think it's time sydney got over it's fear of recycled water and figured it's the best way to go.

Has anyon thought of the hormones that are used to recycle the water. Its all oestregen among other things, but they can't get that out of the water because that's what they use to recycle it.

I think using recycled water for other uses other than drinking, and then using desalinated water for drinking would be far better.

recycled water is also good for us... it is actually healthier than normal dam water and desalinated water.
CSIRO did a test study on people, using desalinated water, recycled water and normal water. People tasted them and could not decide which one was which because they almost all tasted the same. Supprisingly most people said the recycled water tasted best (unknowing what water it was).
