Promises, promises . . . .
Will the state government keep its promises to the LGBTIQ community, or will we be a casualty of the ‘black hole’?
“DOUG: . . . . . . .all the mental health initiatives and so on the Labor government put in place before the election are more or less going to be continued intact under the new administration is that right?
MARY: That’s right, Doug and in addition to that we’ve promised an additional A$4m for a positive mental health and suicide-prevention programme. For GLBTI-young people; about inclusion, in places where young people congregate and we’re really excited to work with the queer community on how we make that most effective.”

Since then we’ve seen the Baillieu government behave like every other incoming government: talk up the ‘black hole’ in finances left by the previous government, the unfunded promises and program etc etc.
''The Coalition will be delivering its election commitments. However, this $5 billion impact on Victoria's finances makes the task of preparing this year's budget particularly challenging,'' Mr Baillieu said last week.
Many people in the gay community voted Liberal – some for the first time – precisely because the Liberal commitments were so much better and broader ranging than the Labor offering. In particular the promises on youth mental health were closely targeted to marginal Labor seats
Our community will be watching the state government very closely to see that the commitments made to us are not among those dropped or downgraded in the upcoming budget.
